A 1989 graduate of the commercial art program at Moorhead Technical College, John's first paying art gig was in screen printing. He soon moved to a large offset printing company, where he quickly worked his way to the top of the pre-press department, and also acted as lead designer. Through that experience John gained extensive technical knowledge in print design and output, and an ability to work under deadlines that can only be described as "silly."
Prior to settling into his chosen career path, John worked for the family landscaping company, where his Dad taught him a strong work ethic, starting as a lot boy at age twelve and working his way up to crew foreman by his late teens. Money earned financed John's driving passion: drumming. Weekends were spent playing in bars, aquiring ever larger drum kits. After high school, John tried music as a full-time career for a few years, but soon grew weary of life on the road, and went back to school, pursuing a lifelong interest in art. He still bangs the drums loudly and swiftly, but much less frequently.
John's experience in many areas of print -- working within the limitations of screen printing, to the complexities of four, five, and six color offset printing -- have given him a wide range of design skills. He is also an accomplished illustrator, using pencil, paint, and digital media. If it doesn't exist, or it can't be photographed, he will create it. Attention to detail, an ability to work under pressure, and a desire to "get it right the first time" make John a valuable asset to the Advertising Marketing team.
